LD 2007 Take Action Toolkit
Maine legislators are considering LD 2007, a bill to restore the inherent right of the Wabanaki Nations in Maine to self-govern within their respective territories in accordance with the same federal laws that generally govern tribal lands elsewhere in the United States. Based on consensus recommendations from a bipartisan task force convened by the Maine Legislature, the legislation addresses long-standing issues with a land claims act passed in 1980 that governs the relationship between the state and the tribes in Maine. Wabanaki leaders and citizens and a broad coalition of hundreds of allied organizations, businesses, and individuals are working to pass this important legislation and need your help! Learn more about the history that led to this legislation, why it’s needed, and how you can support their efforts in this toolkit.
