Legislators will consider two of the Wabanaki Alliance’s priority bills this session, and they need to hear from you! LD 785 is based on bipartisan taskforce consensus recommendations to address long-standing issues with the 1980 Maine Settlement Acts. LD 395 amends the 1980 Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act and the Aroostook Band of Micmacs Settlement Act so that the Wabanaki tribes can benefit from most existing and future federal laws that apply to the more than 570 other federally recognized tribes. Now is a great time to contact your legislators and tell them why you support these bills!
