Our Latest Newsletter: Candidate forums, Women’s History Month, legislative updates, and more!

April 2026

Spring greetings from the Wabanaki Alliance! The state legislature has concluded, bringing good news on many of our priority bills. Some highlights include: the Wabanaki Studies bill being funded and signed into law, advancements made to improve the conservation easement statute to include tribes and tribal ties to land, more positive movement on taxation benefits, and waived admission fees for tribal citizens to state parks. While these are wonderful achievements, much work remains to fully restore the recognition of the inherent tribal sovereignty of Wabanaki Nations. We are committed to that work and look toward the future.

We are thankful for the excellent turnout and participation in our United States Senate Primary Candidates Forum at the Penobscot Nation this month. We heard from candidates David Costello and Graham Platner who shared their thoughts and ideas about how best to represent tribal citizens if elected to the Senate. We had significant engagement with the host community at Penobscot Nation as well as with visitors. Please join us for the last of the primary forum series at Mi’kmaq Nation on May 13th with the candidates for the US Second Congressional District

We continue our coalition building work and you can find our informational tables at various events around our homelands throughout the summer. We remain so thankful for our volunteers and all the good work done in friendship and unity.

Woliwoni!
