The Wabanaki Alliance will join environmental advocates and youth climate leaders for a combined Conservation + Youth + Wabanaki Alliance Lobby Day at the State House in Augusta from 8 am to noon on Tuesday, March 3.
Many Wabanaki Alliance coalition members and supporters are also connected to environmental and youth climate groups, and that overlap is powerful. By aligning our efforts, we’re sending a clear message to lawmakers: Mainers across generations and communities care deeply about climate action, environmental justice, land and water protection, and Wabanaki sovereignty.
Among other issues, discussions with legislators will cover Wabanaki Alliance priority bills, including:
-
- LD 395, An Act to Restore Access to Federal Laws Beneficial to the Wabanaki Nations
- LD 785, An Act to Enact the Remaining Recommendations of the Task Force on Changes to the Maine Indian Claims Settlement Implementing Act
- LD 1054, An Act to Amend the Laws Governing Conservation Easements
- LD 1474, An Act to Strengthen the Teaching of Wabanaki Studies in Maine Schools

What to expect
We’ll gather in Cross Building Room 216 at 8 am to hear from bill sponsors and movement leaders, review priority legislation, and go over simple tips about lobbying your legislators. Then we’ll head to the State House to meet directly with lawmakers and advocate for the policies that matter most to our communities.
Whether this is your first time speaking with your legislators or you’ve joined us before, you will not be doing it alone. We’ll provide everything you need — including materials, talking points, and team leads to guide the way.
