The Wabanaki Alliance will hold a launch event for “Businesses for Wabanaki Sovereignty” January 24 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Patagonia store at 100 Main Street in Freeport.
“Businesses for Wabanaki Sovereignty” is the newest branch of the Wabanaki Alliance Tribal Coalition, dedicated to gathering the unique perspectives and voices of businesses from around the state, and to advocating for justice and fairness as part of this growing movement to see the sovereignty of the Wabanaki Nations recognized and respected.
More than 60 businesses have already joined the Wabanaki Alliance Tribal Coalition, a group that, in addition to businesses, includes advocacy organizations, faith-based and youth groups; unions, professional and philanthropic organizations, and other groups that support Wabanaki inherent sovereignty.
Speakers at the event will include Wabanaki Alliance Board President and Penobscot Tribal Ambassador Maulian Bryant, Wabanaki Alliance Board Vice President and Mi’kmaq Nation Vice Chief Richard Silliboy, Wabanaki Alliance board member and Passamaquoddy Tribal Representative Aaron Dana, and Wabanaki Alliance board member Rena Newell, as well as leaders from Maine’s business community.
