The Wabanaki Alliance will hold a forum for 2026 US Senate candidates at 6 pm Thursday, April 16 in Old Town to discuss nonpartisan issues and policy affecting the Wabanaki Nations. The forum will be hosted by the Penobscot Nation.
This forum offers a critical platform for candidates to discuss non-partisan policy affecting the Wabanaki nations and their plans to support our communities as we look ahead to November.
“The United States Senate race is very significant when it comes to many issues affecting Wabanaki Nations and people,” said Maulian Bryant, a Penobscot Nation citizen and executive director of the Wabanaki Alliance. “We are so pleased to be partnering with the Penobscot Nation to hear from candidates seeking this high office and bring them into a tribal community to share with the people directly how they view tribal sovereignty for Wabanaki Nations on the federal level.”
The forum will be held at the Indian Island School. It will be moderated by Darren Ranco, a citizen of the Penobscot Nation and professor of anthropology and coordinator of Native American Research at the University of Maine. Kirk Francis, Tribal Chief of the Penobscot Nation, will make opening remarks.
This is the second of three candidate forums to be organized by the Wabanaki Alliance. A forum for gubernatorial candidates was held March 19 before a crowd of more than 150 people. (Watch the recording here.) Plans for a forum for US House candidates for the second Congressional district will be announced soon.
The Indian Island School is located at 10 Wabanaki Way in Old Town. Doors will open at 5:30pm. To assist with planning, please register via the link below. The event will also be livestreamed on the Alliance’s Facebook page. A recording will be made available after the forum on the Alliance YouTube channel.
