The Wabanaki Alliance will hold a forum for 2026 US House candidates in the second Congressional district (CD2) at 6 pm Wednesday, May 13, in Presque Isle to discuss nonpartisan issues and policy affecting the Wabanaki Nations. The forum will be hosted by the Mi’kmaq Nation.
This forum offers a critical platform for candidates to discuss non-partisan policy affecting the Wabanaki nations and their plans to support our communities as we look ahead to November.
“The Wabanaki Nations are an important constituency of the second congressional district,” said Maulian Bryant, a Penobscot Nation citizen and executive director of the Wabanaki Alliance. “By hosting a forum with the Mi’maq Nation, the Wabanaki Alliance has a great opportunity to hear from candidates about how they view tribal rights and relationships at the federal level.”
The forum will be held at the Mi’kmaq Nation Gymnasium and Sheila McCormack, Tribal Chief of the Mi’kmaq Nation, will make opening remarks.
This is the third of three candidate forums to be organized by the Wabanaki Alliance. A forum for gubernatorial candidates was held March 19 before a crowd of more than 150 people (watch the recording here) and a forum for US Senate candidates is set for April 16 in Old Town.
The Mi’kmaq Nation Gymnasium is located at 56 Micmac’s Drive in Presque Isle. Doors will open at 5:30pm. To assist with planning, please register via the link below. The event will also be livestreamed on the Alliance’s Facebook page. A recording will be made available after the forum on the Alliance YouTube channel.
